I purchased the PNI Extra 45 antenna a while back, but due to the late winter weather in my part of Canada, I only had the opportunity to install the antenna & radio yesterday. I have to say that I'm genuinely impressed! Straight out of the packaging, the SWR is well within acceptable limits: averaging 1.7:1 on ch.1, & 1.2:1 on ch. 40 & 1.3:1 mid-range. No tuning was required. The cabling was easily run from the roof of my SUV into the passenger compartment, & was long enough to even have a little extra slack at the mounting point of the transceiver. Due to it being RG174, it easily tucks under the rubber door moulding & interior trim pieces & will not get crushed as RG58 would over time, so I'm not expecting any impedance changes. I've not done a proper range test yet, but did pick up clear skip from the US (judging by the fellow's accent) at 4 in the afternoon, which is remarkable for this time of year. Overall, I would highly recommend this antenna based on my initial impressions. Quality is great, fit & finish of the components is excellent, the PL259 connector is of good quality, & the magnet(s) seem to hold securely. There is little or no whistle at highway speeds due to the spiral-wrap of the antenna construction.
