What is a printer drum?

A Printer drum is basically a cylinder that is being charged electrically and has the onus for carrying toner onto the paper via exerting pressure and heat. The image lines drawn on the drum are designed by laser beams and have an electrical charge. The printer drum can also be considered as the “photosensitive drum”.
A drum applies an electrostatic charge to draw the toner powder substances which are put on a photosensitive roller inside the “drum unit”. Which is subsequently used to draw the image on the drum that is transferred onto the paper and printed on the page in the process.
The drum unit on a high volume printer looks like a big cylinder. However, on the other machines, the drum comes in different colors and of the same size and width as a paper towel roll. Small laser printers may have a drum no broader than a pencil.
However, the basic function of the drum unit is to fuse the toner powder particles through electrostatic polarities and convey the toner to the paper. The drum units typically last for a print duration of around 10,000 to 50,000 printed pages, which all depends upon the quality of the printer and related units. You can always replace it before it stops working as soon as you get the warning signs of the drum unit’s decay.
